Summer in the office - how do I survive the heat?

Summer in the office - how do I survive the heat?

Now the time has finally come: Summer is just around the corner. The days are getting longer and the temperatures are rising.

However, the heat also raises many questions: How much skin is allowed in the office and are you entitled to heat-free if it gets too hot in the office?

We answer the most important questions about the topic: "Summer in the office - How can I best survive the heat".

Are sandals allowed in summer?

This question does not arise for men, so the shoes must always be closed. For women, sling pumps are okay in some industries, but certainly not in the strict business, i.e. in the banking and finance sectors.

Are bare legs okay, or does it always have to be tights or a suit?

Applies to women

Tights are also essential in summer. The stockings may be held up, but only if nothing flashes out. Even if the company has a rather loose dress code, you should clarify the basics beforehand.

Applies to men

The shirt is always long-sleeved even in the heat. The tie must also be in high business. It may only be accepted in exceptional cases (if it is suggested by the higher-ranking counterpart or if there is no customer in sight, for example in the office).

Can I get heat free if it gets too warm in the office and there is no air conditioning?

Unfortunately, no. There is actually no legal right to heat-free, companies can only do so on a voluntary basis. However, there is a separate heat control for construction workers. If the temperature rises above 35 degrees, work on construction sites can be stopped outdoors.

What can I do to cool off in the office?

  • Drinks

Drinks are of course the most suitable. Make sure that you drink enough liquid. It should be at least two liters a day. However, coffee is rather unsuitable because it also stimulates sweat production. Then prefer to use mineral water, cold fruit teas, etc.

  • Ventilate

It is also advisable to ventilate properly in the morning to lower the temperature. At lunchtime, all windows should be closed and, if available, the blinds should also be closed.

  • Switch on air conditioning (if available)

A little caution is advisable here: If the difference between room and outside temperature becomes too high, there is a risk of catching a cold!

And here's a good tip last
Rinse your forearms with cold water. Gives a wonderful cooling effect and you come back refreshed to the desk.
