SALARY - HOW TO SPEAK SUCCESSFULLY ABOUT MONEY

A salary conversation is never pleasant. Both for the employee and for the employer. It is therefore all the more important to be properly prepared and able to reason with us.

The salary negotiation - you should avoid that

  • Do not argue with the increased cost of living! After all, these also rise for the company.
  • Do not refer to the salaries of colleagues or industry experts. Chefs hate the exchange of salary figures.
  • Never blackmail with a notice. Especially this threat can backfire quickly and the boss could quickly with a "Then you go, if it does not suit you" answer.
  • Never ask for a salary increase. Instead, speak objectively and competently about it.

Salary negotiation - this is how you get started

  • Prepare yourself. Create a kind of service folder from one to max. three pages long. Reflect on your achievements in the past few years and how well you have developed in the meantime. So you can counteract in hot phases with professional competence.
  • Make an appointment in advance. Best in the spring. So you do not collide with other salary talks that usually take place towards the end of the year.
  • Start the conversation with Smalltalk. Bring something in "mood". No boss is happy to be thrown into the cold water in the first sentence with "I want a salary increase" be taken by surprise.
  • Target your services in a targeted manner and suggest that you would like to be remunerated according to your performance. In this context, also give a concrete idea. Wage wishes do not bring anyone in such a conversation!

PREGNANCY - HOW DO I TELL THE BOSS MY BABY LUCK?

You are pregnant and would like to tell everyone - including your colleagues in the office - about your baby happiness. However, you should be careful with this delicate topic. Because pregnancy often has more than just positive aspects - especially in professional life.

Pregnancy - you should avoid that

  • Do not be too euphoric and do not rush anything. Of course, you would like to trumpet into the world that you are pregnant. But wait for three months. Because especially in this time there is an increased risk of miscarriage.
  • Do not do the mommy fuss. Avoid surfing the relevant parents' websites at work and, if possible, do not make medical appointments during working hours. Because the more you are perceived by your colleagues as "Mum", the more the professional image can be damaged.

Pregnancy - how to approach it properly

  • Set an appointment. In no case should you tell the happy news to the boss in front of the copier or in the canteen. Ask for an appointment with him and discuss your situation in peace.
  • Share your plans. Discuss with your supervisor exactly what your plans for the future look like and also incorporate the wishes of the company. If you want to work in the company again after the birth, you can imagine a Home Office solution. The most important thing is: be honest and do not force yourself to do anything.
  • Inform the colleagues officially. If the boss is privy, you can also inform the colleagues about it. But if you do not want that, you do not have to do it.

TERMINATION - HOW TO TALK ABOUT LEAVING THE COMPANY?

You finally got your long-awaited dream job and nothing stands in the way of your next career move. Only too gladly one would make in the course of its termination a "settlement" with so many coworker and boss. But beware! Please note a few rules when canceling!

Termination - you should avoid this:

  • Do not announce prematurely. You do not have a written commitment from the new employer yet? Then you should wait with the notice and also with the information to the employer rather something.
  • Do not use your notice as a day of billing. Of course, you would like to tell your boss the opinion, but do you really want to be an ungrateful employee? Instead, emphasize what you are grateful for and what opportunities the new task brings with it.

Termination - this is how you get started:

  • Inform your supervisor of your career change and file the notice in a timely manner. You have received the written agreement and already have the next employment contract in front of you? Then inform your supervisor. The sooner the one knows about your job change, the faster a replacement can be arranged for you. Maybe then you can take over the enrollment in advance.
  • Plan your departure. Clarify with your supervisor when and in which form your departure should be communicated internally and externally. If no replacement is found for you, then train the colleague carefully so that afterwards no misunderstandings can arise.
  • Discuss your holiday entitlement. You still have a few days left? Then discuss with your supervisor whether you should consume it or whether it will be paid to you. If you have the choice, you should consume the vacation entitlement. A few days away from your old job can never hurt.
