Tips for a successful application photo

It is only a few centimeters tall, but it can still be challenging: the application photo. Professional or not? What to wear Smile or not? Strict or relaxed? Glasses or lenses? And these are just a few of the questions you can ask yourself about when it comes to a photo on your CV. In fact, the topic should be approached carefully, because everyone knows that you can almost always score points with imagery, at least on an emotional level - so why not also in the application process?

According to the Equal Treatment Act, an employer may not require applicants to attach a photo to their application documents, but it is still considered a standard on the résumé and is expected in a certain way by the majority of HR managers.

Here are our top tips, so that your application photo does not leave a bad first impression.

EFFECT

Be aware of how they want to work. Try to make clear what your expectations of the company are and guide your actions in that direction. Depending on the application office, your effect on the photo should be adjusted.

MOOD

Be in a good mood. Have the application photo taken if you are in a positive mood. Your bad mood can be seen on photos, so it is important that you shine with a satisfied attitude on your application photo.

EXPRESSION

Smile This point sounds simple, but it isn't necessarily. A natural smile appears sympathetic and open and is one of the most important criteria for an invitation to an interview. However, be careful not to make your smile appear too artificial. Stay relaxed and most of all - stay true to yourself.

ATTITUDE

Think of her posture. Although you only see a small section of your body on the application photo, your attitude significantly influences your appearance. A self-confident posture is reflected even in the head portrait.

Pay attention to your clothes and your styling. Your clothes should sit neat and leave a neat impression. Again, there is again an industry-specific clothing selection. Here too, adjust your styling to the desired workplace. Women should use subtle make-up and little jewelry in their styling, while men should pay particular attention to a perfect shave and a clean haircut.

CURRENT PHOTO

Use a current application photo. In order to avoid an unpleasant encounter with the future employer, your photo should be kept up to date. An outdated photo seems sloppy and clouded the current appearance of the applicant.

BACKGROUND

Choose a suitable background for your photo. A wrong background color can easily put the applicant in a bad light. The background should be neutral and tailored to your styling. Avoid disturbing accents in the background. After all, the background should not have a negative effect on you, but support you favorably.

PROFESSIONAL LAW

Go to a pro. Investing in a professional photographer pays off in any case. He can skillfully stage it and respond to your desired presentation. A photographer corrects her posture, her facial expressions and ensures an adequate representation on her perfect application photo.

Generally, of course, it always depends on the area in which you apply. For example, if you are looking for a position in a bank, you should be confident and reliable. If you apply in a beauty salon, for example, the appearance can be a bit more casual. It is best to inquire beforehand on social media etc. according to the dress code of the company and the industry.

If you take these tips to heart, nothing stands in the way of your successful application and you will score with a friendly, competent demeanor right from the start!
